Max

Born to Purr has officially welcomed its first rescue cats—and we couldn’t be more proud.
Sweet Valentina and Mighty Max both faced nearly impossible odds on the streets. In each of their cases, euthanasia was recommended. We chose a different path—one rooted in possibility, compassion, and the belief that their lives still hold meaning and joy.
Valentina is a young cat with a back leg injury that left her with a gentle limp and an endearing bunny hop. Despite her condition, she is not in pain and moves through life with resilience and spirit. Still, outdoor life is no longer safe for her. As our very first sanctuary resident, Valentina is currently being cared for at the cattery at Misfit Rescue while we work to build our permanent sanctuary. She is thriving—enjoying consistent meals, a safe place to rest, and plenty of playtime. At night, she transforms into her own source of entertainment, happily batting at toys and chasing stuffed mice.
Max’s story began with quiet suffering. He was found wandering, weak from hunger and exhaustion, overlooked by passersby until he was rescued by dedicated community cat advocate and TNR specialist Julie Davis. He was immediately taken in for medical care. Though severely malnourished and in need of neutering and dental treatment, Max does not suffer from any serious illness. His life could have ended there—but we believe he deserves the chance to recover, to feel safe, and to be loved.
Whether Max is with us for days, months, or years, his life matters. He represents the heart of Born to Purr: showing up for the cats who have no one, and meeting them with compassion and dignity. Named after Max Weinberg of the E. Street Band, Mighty Max lives up to his name. His spirit shines through in every soft meow, every lean for affection, and every peaceful moment of rest.
This is why we exist—to give cats like Valentina and Max not just a second chance, but a life worth living.
